Without the right type of kitchen layout, you cannot function smoothly and properly. You have to take in to account how the kitchen is used every day, the size and available space, the arrangement of the cabinets, appliances and equipment and the prep and cooking areas. With the right type of kitchen layout, you can easily arrange these elements for you to fully utilize your kitchen space effectively.
When it comes to kitchen design, the “work triangle” is always mentioned and considered. This pertains to the way the important appliances in your kitchen are arranged to form a triangular shape. The most used work areas in the kitchen would include the refrigerator, the stove and the sink. They are arranged in such a way that you can do your work more efficiently in the kitchen. You would be more efficient if you keep your work triangle smaller. But don’t keep them too close because you still need some room to function and they should not be too far apart from each other. The work triangle should always be implemented no matter what shape your kitchen design is. We have the galley kitchen or the corridor kitchen which has the most confined space. The appliances and cabinets are parallel to each other and the space is very narrow. With the L-shape kitchen, the two walls of the kitchen meet at the corner to form an L-shape. This shape allows you more movement in the kitchen. You can also place a kitchen island to maximize the area. The U-shape kitchen, on the other hand, utilizes three walls with more counter and storage space and still has enough room for a kitchen island. You have to make sure that there is enough space for movement and allows you to open appliances and cabinet doors freely.
Whatever type of kitchen layout design you choose, be certain that you maximize your space and position your appliances and equipment for better function and accessibility.
